Now that I have no credit card payment, I’ve been saving money. The raise I got with my promotion six weeks ago also allows me to pay extra on my car payment. I feel good. I’ll feel better when I have a real emergency fund of six months to a year’s worth of what would cover my expenses.
I hadn’t had a savings account in years, and so I opened one at ING in February. I love them - simple interface, no problems, and money is transferred when it’s supposed to be. I haven’t had to make a withdrawal yet, because that’s not really the point of a savings account. With the way the economy is, I take my 3.00% interest and I’m happy with it.
I figured I would try a little experiment and see who’s reading. If you have $250 to open an account with, you can earn $25 if you’re referred by someone (and if you’re new to ING). So I’m going to post a few referral links:
ING Referral Link 1
ING Referral Link 2
ING Referral Link 3
Those links expire on August 16. Once they’re used, if you click on one to try to use it you may see a message saying the link has expired. In that case, let me know and I’ll send you a new one. Oh, and just in the interest of complete disclosure, I get ten bucks for each referral that results in a successful account opening (with $250 bucks). Oh, and you get to refer your friends once you’re an ING customer, too.
So, there you are. Stop spending your money. Save a little!

I love ING!
Nice!!
Cheers for the link. I don’t have the $250 to put into savings at the moment but I will have before the links expire… Or hope I do.
I still find the fact that you eliminated your credit card debt and are progessing further financially very inspirational.
Thanks again Diz.
Sorry, I have an ING account. I don’t have any money to put in it but one day I will! ; )
@B - Three cheers for going orange!
@Ben - If they expire, just shoot me an email when you’re ready and I’ll generate another one for you.
@jennifer - Hopefully when you do you won’t log in to watch how many pennies interest you earn each day!
